Film making is the art of storytelling that creates the most compelling entertainment human beings seek.

Our summer school film option includes technical production skills with film history and theory. Our film program emphasizes storytelling in both narrative and documentary forms. We provide students with a solid foundation in writing, cinematography, editing, directing, lighting, sound, and understanding the filmmaking process from conception to distribution.
The way you tell the story in film can make all the difference.
  • Producing – Development of scripts. Managing budgets. Find sources of funding.
  • Directing – Film direction includes the transformation of the written script into film. Provide creative ideas to film in terms of acting, lighting, scenery, etc.
  • Art Direction – A film art director, along with the production designer, takes the director’s ideas for the movie look and feel and turns them into reality. Build scenery and sets. Make and obtain props. Dress a set and add small props that make a set look real and lived in.
  • Screenwriting – Students in screenwriting will work on the process of writing scripts, especially for film and television, including: story structure, dialog and character development.
  • Cinematography – How t run a film camera, determine correct exposure, setup lighting, work with various kinds of film stock, move cameras and compose shots.
  • Postproduction – The processing of the film after shooting is finished. These classes give students the opportunity to work with some of the most current technologies in the industry in regard to film editing, color correction and sound editing.
